Rainmaker: From strategy to concrete actions

Our new strategy was translated into concrete actions when the whole work force discussed the organizations daily decisions and choices through LOGE says Rainmaker’s CEO Markus Pyrhönen.

Sales, HR and finances outsourcing services providing Rainmaker worked up a new strategy last autumn. A whole new part in the strategy was robotics. Also the company increased the role of gamification.

In the name of the new strategy, the company decided to make use of those elements in practice. Rainmaker called into play LOGE, virtual group dialogue platform, to get the whole staff to discuss and think what the strategy could mean in everyday work.

LOGE is a virtual tool to hold online conversation between a small group of people about any matter that needs improvement. The groups are constructed randomly when people join the discussions by picking up times that suit them the best.

This way a group can consist of all kinds of people in spite their status in the organization. LOGE chooses the chairman randomly and automatically and therefore the participants status does not affect the choice. The chairman’s post is rotated through the discussion between the participants.

The groups are given both multi-select and open-text questions. LOGE then analyses and compiles all the answers using the built-in analytics.

New customs and learning

Markus Pyrhönen, the CEO of Rainmaker says that the LOGE-process brought many tangible results.

”Several of our processes became more logical, we cut out unnecessary meetings and we strengthened the culture of dialog.”

Based on an idea from the staff, for example obstacles in internal communication were removed. The company’s Helsinki-office started to have a Square-meeting every Wednesday, where any matter about the work can be discussed. The Square-meeting underlines that communication is everyone’s business.

Pyrhönen underlines that in addition to ideas group discussions create also genuine learning.

”When the staff is contemplating things that make sense and things that don’t together, in small groups of eight,they learn in a completely different way than sitting in seminars.” The work is also brought to a personal level for the discussions always include a section about what a person can do themselves to make progress.

Effective teamwork

Using LOGE is easy and fast, says Pyrhönen. The first and most important part is the creation of the discussed questions. Wrong questions might lead to difficulty in the in interpretation of the answers.

”A consultant from Talent Vectia came and helped us to define the base questions, but we used our own words to make them suitable for the Rainmaker mindset.”

The staff took eagerly part in the virtual dialogue. The company organized two individual LOGE-sets out of two themes and both had the participation rate of 71% of the whole staff.

”It was more than we expected. We held 41 sessions within three months. And all it took from everyone was two hours.”

Two hours is very little for example compared to having the whole personnel gathered to a cruise for a development seminar for a weekend.

”LOGE doesn’t of course remove the significance of other meetings. The main thing is that the personal communication is maintained through several channels”, Pyrhönen believes.
